Naveen Chandra has just begun shooting for a new film Honey but that doesn’t prevent him from promoting his upcoming release Eleven. The actor says that the Lokkesh Ajls directorial that is set for release on May 16 is a devoted crime thriller.
Thrillers challenge audiences
While Tollywood witnessed several films on whodunnit, Naveen Chandra says that there’s more to Eleven than seen in the trailer. The actor was earlier part of several thriller films. When asked about his fascination for the genre, he replies, “Thrillers always challenge the audiences, and decode the narrative. The genre film makes for great engagement levels and stays on the edge-of-the-seat,” adding that Eleven, a Telugu-Tamil bilingual, produced by Ajmal Khan and Reyaa Hari, has a unique element which is why he had signed it. He said, “While the audience tries to decode the plot, our narrative takes them into a different world. The title itself conveys the story. I am confident that my role as a cop will strike the chord.”

Greatest validation
Naveen is in a happy space! Directors and writers are approaching him with stories keeping him in mind as the protagonist. “That to me is the greatest validation,” he comments. He added, “It shows my growth curve and how I have evolved as an actor over the last few years. I am able to resonate with the film community. I always try to reinvent myself as an actor and present a new version with each film.” While the audiences get to see Naveen in intense roles, doesn’t he consider doing any comic roles? “Unless the plot is out-of-the-box you are not seen here,” he shares. While accentuating that his strength is love stories, he exudes confidence that he can hold the audience for two hours in thrillers too.

Longevity in films
For someone who started their career with Sambhavami Yuge Yuge (2006), his nearly 20 years of journey has been a roller coaster ride. And for a rank outsider like Naveen, doing 50 films in various languages has been a blessing. “Humility is the reason for my longevity,” he comments. He added, “Being an actor and shouldering a film I should behave responsibly especially when filmmakers are doing so much for me. Hailing from a small town in Ballari where actors and films are celebrated, Naveen was inspired to become an actor. His passion for the crafts pushes him to excel and be more committed to the craft."
Wife reads scripts
Naveen's wife is a writer from Malayalam industry and also worked as an AD. He discusses scripts with her and constantly keeps her posted on his films. She understands his approach towards films and that makes things easy for him to strike a work-life balance. “Before marriage I used to carry the character home. But after the wedding, I slowly fostered the art of switch on and switch off,” shares the actor who acknowledges that the process was emotionally challenging.
