EXCLUSIVE: âœIt should be a personal choiceâ- Kajol on cosmetic surgery and embracing age with grace

Kajol, one of Bollywood’s most beloved and enduring stars, has always been known for her candidness and authenticity. In an interview with Filmfare, she delved into the nuanced topic of cosmetic surgery, offering a perspective that reflects her thoughtful approach to beauty and self-acceptance.

“Cosmetic surgery is a dicey topic,” she remarked. “If I had a birthmark and if it was disabling me from getting somewhere, I’d get it removed. Victims of acid attacks and fire need such surgery. Cosmetic surgery, on the other hand, is the individual’s prerogative, a personal choice.”  Kajol emphasised the importance of introspection before opting for such procedures, stating, “But it cannot be something like I want good cheekbones, so let me have them. One should be sure whether it’s necessary to change that feature of the body. If yes, then go for it.”

Her perspective resonates with her broader views on ageing and self-image. Reflecting on turning older, Kajol shared, “It’s not a big deal. A reminder of whether you are heading in the correct direction in life.” She added, “I’ve been moving in the correct direction.”

This blend of confidence and introspection is evident in her latest cinematic venture, Maa.  Directed by Vishal Furia, the film marks Kajol’s foray into the horror genre, presenting her in a role that intertwines maternal devotion with mythological elements. In Maa, she portrays a fiercely protective mother battling demonic forces to save her daughter, a narrative that promises both emotional depth and supernatural thrills. The film is set to release in multiple languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Bengali, on June 27, 2025.

The film’s trailer, which has already garnered significant attention, showcases her transformation into a formidable figure, blending vulnerability with formidable strength. The visual narrative hints at a gripping tale where the boundaries between good and evil are explored through the lens of a mother’s unwavering love .
